Guatemala Travel Photography Trip

Ten Days

Date- October 30 - November 8, 2018

Photography - Storytelling - Spreading Goodwill

All Levels

Physical is easy (1-3) with options to add on volcano climb, canoeing and more.

If you aren't sure about physical level call to talk.

Our travel photography workshop to Guatemala is guided by Karen Kamauski, an incredible National Geographic Expedition leader and Sherrlyn Borkgren an accomplished photojournalist and storyteller. You will have opportunities to work side-by-side with these photographers, join in critiques and practice visual storytelling throughout the trip. We don't go as tourists but as traveler's and storytellers. We travel as we would travel on an assignment for National Geographic, Save-the-Children, NBC or Newsweek Magazine.

Step across the threshold into ancient and modern day Mayan culture and traditions. We begin our journey in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage town, Antigua. Photographing the Messenger's of the Wind Kites celebrated on All Saints' Day you'll be immersed with the colors and culture. Some colorful handmade kites are as large as a two-story house. We stay three-days in Antigua.

Next we are off to the highlands to visit a boys' ranch in Huehuetanango. Managed by an American for discarded children we are invited to stay the night. You'll have the chance to hang out, teach your skills and learn a little from the kids. It's a perfect place to develop a fantastic story.

When we arrive to magnificent Lago Atitlán we'll boat across the lake to our quaint Mayan owned hotel on its shores. It might be the most gorgeous mystical lake in the world. It's ancient, changing and surrounded by majestic volcanos.

You'll have the option to climb a volcano, paddle across the lake in a canoe or meander around the town with your camera. There is so much to photograph you'll want to bring plenty of flashcards. We will boat to nearby villages to learn about natural dyes, back strap weaving and visit local Mayan painters.

This workshop is limited to eight participants. A phone conversation is required before registration, please.541 579 9929

Sherrlyn Borkgren tells stories through the camera and video

From the small and simple to the large and challenging I thrive on bringing a wide spectrum of visions to life. Let's focus on the story you want to tell.

  • I listen carefully to what you want
  • Help you with project concept development
  • send dependable and fair cost estimate
  • your ideas get done on time
  • work well with teams
  • ready to talk when you are.

I work with budgets and I'm flexible on projects. Every business has a story let me help you find yours.

Are you looking for a simple headshot or do you have a major project. Let's talk.

You've got only seconds to represent yourself so if it isn't excellent it's not good enough.

Customer Service philosophy:

People are a priority.
I meet deadlines, deliver your message, create an unique dynamic image of you and tell your story with images and (or) words.

Whether it be a business portrait, a family portrait, a boudoir fashion shoot, or NEWS you will always get my best.
I understand the "business”—budgets, deadlines, contracts, logistics and return on investment. I can promise that if I cannot be passionate about the shoot I won't accept the job.

Stories are about People, Places and Things. Verbs are our friends.
Every one, every event has a story when you look for it.

If it isn't named here just ask. We ran out of room to make long lists.

Coming from a news background, there is nothing that I cannot do with a camera. Before any photo session, we will have a consultation to clarify exact details about what you want and make sure that I am the right photographer for you.
